October - Mid November
This time of year, students learn the craft of writing a realistic fiction narrative piece of writing. They learn techniques such as making the problem in the story get worse and worse before it gets better, showing (not telling) what their characters are thinking and feeling, and how to incorporate a sufficient amount of action and dialogue in order to captivate their audience.
Planning for these stories takes a lot of careful work with thinking about character traits and the events, or scenes, which writers want to include in their stories. It is always amazing to see their characters come to life and to watch their stories unfold!
